Sylvia Naimark:
Afterglow
Solo exhibition
Konstnärshuset, Stockholm
March 12 – April 9, 2022
The title of the exhibition suggests shifts in state. The visitor finds a before and an after an the tensions in
between. Afterglow is a study in ways of experiencing reality, or real events. In many ways, the retelling
of the experience always becomes fiction. An afterglow of and a prank on the real.
Sylvia Naimark's works represent liminal states and movement and expressions even in the seemingly
still. The What Remains series consists of 10 paintings installed in a row, spaced apart. The oscillating
effect between painting and interruption creates an emptiness but also a breathing space. Her paintings
are woven together and there is a kind of simultaneity that reflects concepts and the unknown. In the
materiality of the paint, one can see how the painting is both intuitive and restrained at the same time.
